For Foreign Students
General Introduction of China Medical University
China Medical University (CMU) was founded in Ruijin city, Jiangxi
province in 1931. Its precursor was the Chinese Workers’-Peasants’
Red Army Military Medical School and Chinese Workers’-Peasants’
Red Army Health School, which was the first medical school established
by the Chinese Communist Party. In 1940, proposed by comrade Mao
Ze-dong and approved by the Central Committee of Chinese Communist
Party, the name of the school was transferred to China Medical University.
In November 1948, the University moved to enter Shenyang. It merged
the former national Shenyang Medical College founded in 1911 and
former private Liaoning Medical College founded 1892(both in Shenyang
city).
Since its establishment, over 52,000 senior specialized medical
personnel have been educated by CMU, and its graduates are all over
China and some countries and regions of the world. It nurtured many
famous medical experts and leaders of national health administration
and education, including a hundred above vice-ministry rank, nine
ministers or vice-ministers of the Health Ministry, more than 40
generals, and twelve academicians of China Science Academy and Chinese
Academy of Engineering.
The current total staff of CMU is 7,630, and 6,126 are professionals
of different specialties. Among them are: one academician of Chinese
Academy of Engineering, 448 professors, 676 associate professors,
205 tutors for doctor students and 562 tutors for master students,
2 members of Evaluation Group of Academic Degree Committee of the
State Council, 4 directors and 11 vice-directors, 50 members of
Standing Committee, 60 Committee members of national academic societies,
such as Chinese Medical Society. At present, CMU has 28 colleges,
faculties and sections with the total number of 20,287 registered
students. 5 broader disciplines of pedagogy, philosophy, natural
science, medicine, management of CMU are authorized to grant degrees;
43 disciplines (specialties) are authorized to grant doctor degrees
and 55 are authorized to grant master degrees; 11 specialties for
undergraduates and 10specialties for higher professional techniques
education. In addition, CMU has 2 national key disciplines and 3
health ministerial laboratories; 1 national center for children
rescue; 3 post-doctoral mobile stations; 3 national training centers;
2 national base for research of medicines; 10 provincial key disciplines,
12 research (treatment) centers of Liaoning province; 22 educational
and research institutes or centers, 8 central laboratories of the
university or its colleges; 15 independent research laboratories.
CMU now has 3 scientific technique enterprises; 3 affiliated comprehensive
hospitals and 2 specialty hospitals with total beds of 3,927.
CMU occupies a total land area of 3,290,000 square meters (including
new campus) with 743,000 square meters building area. The library
with its more than 823,000 volumes of collections is the northeast
regional center of National Medical Literature Resources Sharing
Network of the Health Ministry, northeast knot of China Medical
Information Network, and a national consulting unit for the science
and technology of medicine and health. CMU sponsors and publishes
10 magazines on national and provincial levels. The laboratory animal
center of CMU, which breeds 23 species and strains of experimental
animals for teaching and research, is also the provincial centers
of laboratory animals and their quality control.
So far CMU has established good exchange and cooperative relations
with 46 universities, institutes and institutions in Japan, USA,
England, France, Russia, South Korea and Canada etc; Many internationally
famous professors have been conferred honorary titles of CMU; 49
important international cooperation projects have been conducted.
Stable cooperation relations have been set up with other countries
on 40 disciplines.; Many teachers have been sent abroad for advanced
training and lectures or research ; 428 overseas students(including
students from HK, Macao, Taiwan regions) have received their education
at CMU.
CMU has been authorized by the Education Ministry to admit foreign
students in 1976.
Requirements
1. Bachelor’s Degree: Graduated from formal senior high school,
above 18 ages, good health,
and pass the entrance examinations.
2. Post-graduate:
? Master’s Degree: Graduated from formal medical colleges
with bachelor’s degree or above, good health, and pass the
entrance examinations.
? Doctor’s Degree: Master’s degree holder of medical
specialty, good health, and pass the entrance examinations.
3. Scholar: Graduates with formal medical professional training
and clinical or research experience, and corresponding certificates
on this, good health.
Academic year, Educational system, Application
duration and Enrollment time
1. Academic year: From September 1 to July 30 of second year is
one academic year.
2. Educational system: ? Bachelor’s Degree: Five years;
?Master’s Degree: Three years;
?Doctor’s Degree: Three years;
?Scholar: One year or two years;
3. Duration time of application: From March 1 to June 30 each year.
4. Duration time of entrance: September 1 each year.
Requirement documents
First, the applicant must mail his (her) application letter, the
copies of graduation certificate issued by the educational department
of his (her) country’s government, passport and graduate transcript,
the physical examination certificate, economic guarantee paper and
postal address to CMU. The physical examination could also be performed
after your entering PRC.
Entrance procedures
1. All the information and certificates of the applicant will be
thoroughly examined, and then we will send the «China Medical
University Application Form for Foreign Student Coming To Study
In China At Their Own Expenses» (this form may be downloaded
from Internet) to eligible applicant. After filling out the form,
the applicant should send it back with 8 pieces of 2-inch shots
and 800 RMB together, so that we are able to deal with the enrollment
procedure for applicant in time.
2. Applicant must demonstrate the original documents or certificates
mentioned above to us, and we will evaluate his (her) abilities
of the Chinese language, or examine the study certificate of Chinese
language. If applicant could not pass the evaluation of the language
ability and no the certificate available, he (she) needs to study
the Chinese language for one year. After taking part in HSK examination
and passing it (undergraduate: elementary level C; post-graduate:
middle level B), the applicant will be eligible for studying here
as a formal student.
Tuition fee, Living expenses and Others
Tuition fee and living expenses will be charged in accordance with
the relative regulations of the Educational Ministry and the Ministry
of Finance of the People’s Republic of China. All the other
expenses must be paid by applicants themselves.
