The committee of experts in 1996 approved the laboratory as the major laboratory of Health Ministry of China.

The Directions of Research
The major directions of research are the basic study and the applied basic study of congenital malformations in the digestive system, urinary system, limbs and spine using molecular biology and try to find the methods of prevention and treatment of congenital malformations.

Professor: 8, Associate Professor: 10 (two of them majoring in the research work), Lectures: 14 (two of them majoring in the research work), Resident: 7, Technicians: 8.

The Head of the Laboratory
Professor: Shi-Jun ji, MD, The vice-director of the Pediatric Surgery Society of China Medical Association and the head of Pediatric Orthopedic Group.

The Projects of Research
The different foundation committee funded 44 projects of research since the mid of 1980s, including: National Natural Science Foundation 23, Health Ministry foundation 14, the cooperation projects with scientists in other countries 3, and others 4.

The Achievements of Research
23 achievements of scientific research were awarded since the mid of 1980s, including National 1, Health Ministry 8, Liaoning Province 10, and the Shenyang City 4.

Publications
More than 400 papers and 8 special books were published since the mid of 1980s.
