Famous Experts of The HospitalZhao Chongzhi Prof. ZHAO ChongZhi, male, was born in Kaiyuan, Liaoning province in 1924. Graduated from Liaoning Medical College in 1948 with a B.M. degree. Since 1960, he has worked in the neurosurgery field for 40 years and cured more than ten thousand patients. He was once appointed the director of the Dept. of neurosurgery of the General Hospital of Shenyang Military Region, Guest professor of neurosurgery of the 4th Military Medical University, editor of Chinese Neurosurgery Journal, Medicine Journal of the People's Liberation Army, Apoplexy and neuropathy Journal, member of the Medical Science Committee of the People' Liberation Army, Vice Chief Member of the Liaoning Branch of Chinese Neurosurgery Association, Advisor of Shanghai Neurosurgery Institute. He currently holds the post as professor of the Dept. of Neurosurgery of No. 2 Hospital of China Medical University. He began the research in microneurosurgery in the 1970's, and firstly carried out the total resection of intraspinal arteriovenous malformations (AVM) and the peroral resection of chordoma of the clivus. He has done more than one hundred resection of cerebral AVM and the mortality is below 2%. No patient died in the consecutive 125 intracranial aneurysms. In the treatment of a giant ophthalmic artery aneurysm which diameter was 9 cm, he dissected the aneurysm wall, removed the thrombus, clipped the neck, then did plastic operation of the wall. Through the study of a series of 500 hypertensive intracranial hemorrhage, he brought out a new classification according CT scanning, by which more appropriate therapy could be chosen and the mortality could be reduced to about 27%. In the 24th international surgery congress in Manila in 1985, many experts commended this method of classification. At present, he is engaged in the research of microneurosurgery of brain stem and base of skull. He was the editor in chief of Atlas of Cerebral Angiography, and took part in the compilation of Practical Neurosurgery, Operation: Volume of Neurosurgery, Atlas of Neurosurgical Operation.
