The End of Heat is the 14th of the 24 solar terms in the Chinese lunar calendar. It begins this year on Aug 23 and ends on Sept. 6.

End of Heat indicates that the hot summer passes and heat stops. Most parts in China are entering autumn. But in some areas, especially in South China, autumn is late in coming and people are still bothered by hot weather. End of Heat is also the busy harvest season for farmers.

As Chinese often say, “People feel sleepy in the spring and tired in the autumn”. This is the period that people often feel tired and difficult to get up in the morning. It is a sign that the human body needs rest, since people have consumed excessive energy in the summer.
When autumn comes, it’s better to eat light dishes rather than something like BBQ, or spicy meat. Foods with more vitamins are very good for health, for example, tomatoes, eggplants and potatoes.
