The Study Section of the IES Student Union held its first Basic Medical Assessment Seminar of the 2019/2020 academic year on Sunday 22nd September. The seminar was orated by Alpha Mutamba, final year Chinese batch student of China Medical University. He was assisted by the members of the Study Section. This seminar focused on history taking ( S.O.A.P notes) and had an encouraging turnout of students participating.

Skills learned: Effective history taking, listening to the patient and being able to identify pertinent signs and symptoms that will help the physician make a proper diagnosis. Mnemonics like SOCRATES (Site, Onset, Character, Radiation, Alleviating Factors, Time, Exacerbating Factors, severity) was used to assist students in practicing what they were taught with their fellow peers.

It was also an opportunity for the study section to award students who have been consistent with their attendance and participation in the seminars, and for this 4th year students graced us with their presence. The event was very interactive and hands on. It fulfilled the purpose for which it was held as participants attested to having learnt a lot and were grateful for the seminar.
