“Major Snow” is the 21st solar term of the year which begins this year on Dec. 7 and ends on Dec. 21. During Major Snow, the snow becomes heavy and begins to accumulate on the ground. The temperature drops significantly.
大雪是一年中的第21个节气，从今年的12月7日开始，到12月21日结束。在大雪期间，雪变大、并且开始堆积在地上,气温下降非常显著。
During the Major Snow season, most parts of China, except for South China and the southern part of Yunnan Province, are usually covered with snow. In the northeastern and northwestern regions, the average temperature has dropped below-10℃. In the Yellow River region and North China, the temperature is stable at below 0℃. The snow in North China may last a whole day, breaking tree branches and blocking the road. The natural scenery is "hundreds miles locked in ice, thousands miles of whirling snow". In the south, sometimes the world turns white because of the snow.
大雪时节，除华南和云南南部无冬区外，我国辽阔的大地已披上冬日盛装。东北、西北地区平均气温达-10℃以下，黄河流域和华北地区气温也稳定在0℃以下。此时，北方地区的降雪可能会持续一整天，会压断树枝、阻塞道路，俨然一片"千里冰封，万里雪飘"的北国风光。在南方，有时也会雪花飞舞世界变成白茫茫的一片。
“Major Snow” is a very important period for farmers. If the snow is very heavy, it means next year will be a harvesting year. This is because that the nitrogen compound in snow is 4 times more than those in the rain. When the snow melt and soak into the soil, the increased nitrogen in soil can be absorbed by crops quicker. At the same time, the freezing snow water can kill many pests on earth’s surface layer.
对于中国农民来说“大雪”这个节气是十分重要的，如果降雪量大，那就意味这来年将会是一个丰收年，因为雪水中的氮化物含量是比雨水中氮化物含量高出4倍多，当积雪融化并渗入土壤中的时候，土壤将增加更多的氮元素，作为更容易吸收。同时积雪还能杀死地表的害虫。
