The “Medical Quiz 2018” was held on Saturday, 14th April, 2018 in the Science and Art Activity Center. It was organized mainly by the Study section of the Student Union of IES.
Four groups registered to participate in the event. There was a moderate but encouraging turn out of student supporters that made up the audience. We were also graced with the presence of Jack Lu from the CMU Anatomy Department.
It was a tough competition as contestants engaged their medical knowledge in various rounds. They started with the “Multiple Choice Questions” round, then the “Spot test” where students had to identify various anatomical structures or landmarks. The excitement was on during the “Practical Physiology” round, as it attempted to mimic the famous TV game show: “Who Wants to be a Millionaire”. Contestants had to pick papers with question numbers written on them from four regions of physiology namely, Cardiac, neuro, skeletal muscle and endocrine.
The first elimination took place after the compilation of the results from the aforementioned events and Group 3 whose members were: Prahlad Ram, Ayaz Ahmad and Reshma Agarwal,was eliminated after losing a tie breaker to group 4.
The quiz then proceeded to the thrilling buzzer round after which Group 4 whose members were: Ragadevi Ragunthan, Agnes Mary Abraham and Mehak Kaur, was evicted leaving Groups 1 and 2 who proceed to the case discussion stage.
The winners of the “Medical Quiz 2018” were Group 1: Areba Rayees, Addagarla Praneeth and Harshita Nim. Group 2: Fazil Amin, Samar Kumar and Kapil Chauhan came second.
The combined efforts of the Study section:Chief- Opeyemi A. Odesanya, Joshua Blay, Lebogang Sethole and Alpha Kalonda , the Vice President, Melissa Halliman,along with members of other sections of the Student Union was greatly appreciated.
We extend commendations to all the winners and appreciate the Student body that came out to support the event.
