Dance Fitness Madness

2017年10月17日 10:27

The Arts Section kicked off the academic year 2017-18 with a bang! The event was appropriately titled ‘Dance Fitness Madness!’

The event is a dance workout regime, which commenced on Monday, the 9th of October. The program is expected to last until the 27th of November and is set to happen every Monday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the 4th dance studio of the gymnasium. It features a wide range of diverse dance styles that promises to give participants a colourful experience. The program is aimed at providing students with an avenue to work out while having the time of their lives. The initial dance session was dubbed Hip Hop Night. Students came out in great numbers to support the event, and did not hesitate to show off their dance moves and skills. The dance studio was graced by the slick moves, infinite creativity and immeasurable passion of the Hip Hop dance instructor Ruby Ryland. She choreographed a routine that had the other dancers swishing their arms and thrusting their hips with excitement, as they worked hard at getting the moves on point. The overall ambiance and energy in the dance studio was through the roof. The session followed the framework drafted by the Art Section organizers which included, Stretches and Flexibility improvement, Warm-Up, learning the Dance routine, Warm- Down and Freestyle dancing. The aim of the event was definitely achieved.

The turn-out is expected to increase for the weeks to come, however the Art Section and the dance instructors are well equipped and ready to deliver on even more exciting dance sessions. The line up for the program includes: Reni guiding us through an electrifying Indian dance session, Zubayda, who will give us a glimpse into her heritage with her Uyghur ethnic dance moves , Kacharna whom is expected to wow us with the vibrancy that Caribbean dance brings, Daniella’s striking and rhythmic Afrobeat dance moves, Melissa Halliman who will showcase her eloquent Jazz moves and Akili Samuels, who will cap off the program with his mind- boggling Zumba session and artistic Urban flow movements respectively.

The Art Section is working diligently to secure the upkeep of the program, so that students who are looking forward to it will not be disappointed. The Section hopes that the program will continue even beyond this semester, and is grateful for the interest and appreciation that the student body has shown.
