Talent Show 2017

The Annual Talent Show hosted by the IES Arts Section was nothing short of remarkable. The event took place at the Scientific and Art Center and it featured a plethora of talents ranging from dancing, drama, singing and fashion designing. The show of 33 performances was highly anticipated and subsequently the support was mega from the international student body, board of directors, teachers and chinese students.

The show was off to a start at 6:30pm. A very enthusiastic crowd was seen as the first round of performers got ready to grace the stage. The first performers ‘Fantastic Four’ entertained the eager audience with a graceful Indian dance. Mounika soon followed with a sultry contemporary song which only just whet the appetite of the audience for more soulful singing. Amongst the highlights for the first half were the XinJiang dancers who gave a sassy dance which earned a thunderous applause. Guest Performer from Shenyang Aerospace University (SAU), Sebastian did a beautiful cover of Ed Sheeran’s 'Thinking Out Loud'. The presence of the females in the crowd was almost tangible as he sang the final notes.

Team India Walle was up soon which earned loud cheers from the Indian audience as they showed their patriotism through dance and drama. Closing the first section of performances were dancers from Burundi who performed a pleasant traditional folk dance engaging the audience with brilliant smile and energetic dance moves.

For the first time in the history of IES Talent Shows, there was a Chinese Interclass Competition. 2014 Class 1 emerged victorious with a very entertaining Chinese Drama which had members of the audience laughing heartily (at least, those who understood Chinese).

Another highlight from the competition was 2016 Class 1's Chinese song and Dance entitled 'Tian Mimi' . The group, comprising of students from numerous nationalities, managed to effectively capture aspects of Chinese dress and culture thus adding to the overall spectacle of the show.

The Show also included an Eco- Fashion Competition where members of the IES put their creativity to old scraps of paper and plastic. Styled by Grace was the winner however one simply could not overlook the trendy, feasible and arresting looks displayed by the other participants.

Some of the highlights included Fusion Dancer’s energetic African and Jamaican dance collaboration, Gravity Fighter’s neon dance and the highly loved ‘Tamil Pasanga’. The show also included the awarding of trophies to the Girls Basketball Team for placing 4th in the CMU Basketball Tournament.

The show a very good representation of the diversity and talent existing in the IES. The Student Union, especially the arts section, worked tirelessly to ensure that the show was successful and entertaining. The Union hopes to host an even better in 2018 so everyone is advised to start practicing for next year’s performances. We look forward to seeing you!
