On July 29th, 2017，Dr.Gu Pengyi led 15 students from CQC to attend 2017 Summer School in order to strengthen the communication with Queen’s University, expand students’ academic vision and enhance students' professional consciousness.
Queen’s University Belfast highly concerned about this event. On July 31st, they held a welcoming banquet for all Summer School members in the centuries-old principal's banquet hall. Met at the City Hall, all the members received a warm welcome from officials in Belfast City. The officials fully affirmed the important role of CQC in the Sino-British cultural exchange, expressing the best wishes for friendly relationship between Shenyang and Belfast.
From August 1st to 3rd, teachers from QUB gave introduction for the students about the history and development of the university, explaining the postgraduate programme, and making the students have a clear direction of learning and working at the Queen's College of Medicine, Medical Experiment Center, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. Students delved into the college laboratories, communicated with teachers and students on the first scientific research line, came into contact with advanced scientific experimental equipment closely, and experienced the strong scientific atmosphere.
As one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the UK, ALMAC offered a chance for Summer School students to learn the history and culture of the enterprise and to visit the GMP lab and the pharmaceutical workshop on August 4th. Not only can students learn more beyond classroom, but they can promote their professional consciousness from this activity.
From August 7th to 13th, to make students have a better understanding of history of the British and the university culture, two routes were selected. One route is about historical building starting from Edinburgh Castle, Lake District, Shakespeare House, Churchill House, Buckingham Palace, British Museum, Windsor Castle to Historic Building. Another is starting from university of Oxford, Cambridge University, City University of London. They’re willing to feel the charm of city during the trip, immersing themselves into British lifestyle, and expanding their viability.
Some members also had chance to conduct a one-week experimental operation in QUB’s Laboratory.
Through this visit, Summer School members understood more British culture, broadened the international perspectives, enhanced the English language application ability, cultivated scientific interest and research ability, and enhanced cooperation awareness. This is very meaningful experience for their current undergraduate study, future employment and development.
In the future, supported by CQC, this activity provide a platform not only for more students who have chance to feel the cultural and scientific atmosphere in QUB, but also for promoting international communication.
