The Study Section of the International Education School organized its first Medical Week which comprised of three events. The events included a medical debate competition, a medical exposé and the much anticipated medical quiz.
The first event took place on Monday, April 8th 2019 in the Science and Art Activity Centre. Debate participants argued on highly controversial medical topics whilst educating and propelling students to research and innovation. Participants argued on whether women should be the sole decision maker in the medical termination of pregnancy and also on the highly controversial topic of physician assisted euthanasia. The judges were past Student Union presidents Abbas Farooqi and Michael Xu and well as Study Section member Deepika Soundararajan. Four teams participated in the debate and the winners were declared after an exciting final round.

The Medical Expose was held on the 10th of April 2019 at the IES building. 35 people were in attendance including guests Professor Vasanth and Doctor Ahmed. Presenters took their time deeply investigating a single topic of interest and delivered what may have seemed like a complex concept with ease and style. Melissa Halliman spoke about the power of belief in oneʼs health as well as the use of placebo. The mere fact that our bodies can naturally heal themselves if we believe blew those in attendance away. Teenage depression was also discussed by Chanditha Krishna Reddy. She elaborated on its causes and symptoms and how we can support some of our friends who are going through it without imposing and also bearing in mind that there is alarming statistics for the incidence of depression. Alpha Kalonda called attention to dreams and how close scientists are in being able to record and replay dreams. The possibilities are endless! Reshma Agarwal shed light on Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) which is a serious form of pneumonia. It is caused by a virus that was first identified in Asia, 2003. Infection with the SARS virus causes acute respiratory distress (severe breathing difficulty) and sometimes death.At the end of the event, presenters were awarded for their hard work, time and dedication.

The final event for the Week was the Medical Quiz which was held on Saturday, April 13, 2019. The quiz had three teams answering questions from Anatomy and Physiology. The event also featured participants from sixth year. The first round was the terminator where participants answered multiple choice questions from both Anatomy and Physiology. All teams then advanced to the second round which was the Quiz-a-tomy . Participants were required to identify and label various anatomical structures. The other rounds were double trouble, buzzer round and case discussion for the remaining third, fourth and fifth rounds respectively. The judges were Surya , Praneeth and Jack Lu Laoshi. After the final round Jack Lu Laoshi explained the Neuroanatomy case after participants proposed a diagnosis and differential diagnosis. The winners were declared and awarded.
